The Tribute Band Filling Opera Houses

Carlos Santana's catalogue mixes rock guitar with dense Latin percussion, and few tribute acts attempt it properly. Very Santana built their reputation on doing exactly that, selling out venues that range from small clubs to Opera North's Howard Assembly Room in Leeds.

The six-piece centres on guitarist Rolly, whose PRS, Gibson and Fibenare guitars run through a Mesa Boogie King Snake and Two-Rock amps for that unmistakable valve-driven tone. Lead vocalist and percussionist Amera studied commercial songwriting at Tileyard College London and speaks fluent Spanish, which she puts to direct use across Santana's Spanish-language material. Organ, bass, drums and a second percussionist round out the rhythm section, and the set covers Abraxas-era tracks like Black Magic Woman and Oye Como Va through to the Grammy-winning Smooth and Maria Maria.

Their last appearance at the Goods Shed sold out well before the night itself.
