The President's Cake: Tetbury Film Society Screening

A child's impossible cake opens into a bigger story

Tetbury Film Society's November screening follows nine-year-old Lamia, who is chosen to bake a cake for Saddam Hussein's birthday in 1990s Iraq. With her grandmother Bibi, she must find scarce ingredients while the pressure around the task grows.

Hasan Hadi's feature debut won the Camera d'Or and the Directors' Fortnight audience award at Cannes, and it is shown in Arabic with English subtitles. The film is rated 12A, with warnings for strong language, threat and horror, and references to child sexual abuse.

Doors open at 6.15pm, with the film starting at 7pm and a licensed bar available. The Goods Shed has free parking nearby, accessible ground-floor facilities, wheelchair seating and hearing loops for cinema screenings.

Ticketed. Advance booking is the safest bet; check current availability on the event page.
