Orchestra of St John's: Masterpieces of the Romantic Orchestra

About this event

Opera scenes, a concerto movement and a cause

Orchestra of St John's brings five contrasting works to the Goods Shed, under the direction of John Lubbock. Wagner's Siegfried extract opens a programme that moves between opera, concerto and orchestral variations.

Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 appears as its second movement, alongside the Letter Scene from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Mozart's concert aria Ch'io mi scordi di te?. Brahms's Variations on a Theme by Haydn completes the evening.

Proceeds help support OSJ's Music for Autism programme, which takes professional concerts and interactive workshops into specialist schools. This evening is part of a two-concert pairing with 30 January's separate Derek Paravicini concert; the combined ticket includes a glass of prosecco on arrival at each.

Doors open at 6.45pm for the 7.30pm concert, and you can book this evening on its own or choose the two-concert option. Bring your booking name; a printed ticket is not needed.

The ground floor and accessible toilet are step-free, while the raked seats have steps. Contact the venue before booking for floor-level seating, wheelchair space or hearing assistance, as a hearing loop is not assured for acoustic music.

Free parking is beside the venue in the shared Old Railyard long-stay car park. Approach from Cirencester Road, as Gumstool Hill has no vehicle access to it, and allow time to find a space.

Ticketed. Advance booking recommended.
