Wilderlands: The Human History of Wild Britain

About this event

How much of wild Britain was made by people?

This evening lecture follows 12,000 years of people changing Britain's landscape, from burning wildwood to farming and bringing in animals. It asks what we mean by wilderness when so much of the countryside carries traces of human activity.

Wilderlands examines the idea of an untouched landscape and what this history might mean for conservation today. The book is longlisted for the 2026 Wainwright Prize for Conservation Writing, bringing archaeology, history and land use into the same discussion.

Corinium Museum has accessible toilets and wheelchairs to borrow, with quiet spaces available. Old Station Car Park is about a two-minute walk away; parking is cashless, so plan how you will pay before travelling.

Ticketed. Book through Corinium Museum.
