Oil Painting: Fundamentals and Colour

Try oils on paper before you commit to canvas

Artist Daisy Embury leads this one-day workshop in the basics of working with oils. You will explore how oil paint behaves, look at colour theory and mixing, and try brushwork, sketching and different ways to prepare an idea.

Most of the day is spent painting, first on oil-painting paper so you can experiment without worrying about a finished piece, then on canvas as the techniques come together. The workshop suits complete beginners, curious first-timers and painters returning to the fundamentals.

All materials are included, but bring an apron or clothes that can get dirty. The workshop is for adults aged 18 and over, and food is not allowed in the studio, although a lidded bottle of water is welcome. The studios are wheelchair accessible, and the nearest council car park is about two minutes away.
