About this event

When archaeology, ritual and poetry meet in Stroud

The Practice of Place is a one-hour Dobunni Poetry Festival panel about how we listen to the ancient world beneath our feet. Amanda Hart of the Roman Baths, Museum in the Park's Kevin Ward, celebrant Kate Dineen and poets Adam Horovitz and JLM Morton bring collections, archaeological traces, ritual and creative practice into the same conversation.

Chaired by Dialect co-director Emma Kernahan, the discussion asks how poetry can become a form of heritage work, moving from museum objects and fieldwork to ecological attention, the Dobunni past and the creative future of the region. It is a good fit for anyone curious about how history lives in a landscape, and how words can make that history feel present rather than merely preserved.

Lansdown Hall is in central Stroud, a short walk from the High Street, railway and bus stations, with limited on-street parking and nearby Church Street car parking. The venue publishes a step-free route to the first-floor Hall via Bank Gardens, accessible toilets and a hearing loop; contact the venue in advance if you have particular access requirements.

Ticketed. Book through the Dobunni Poetry Festival.
