Christmas Ghosts: Talk with Kirsty Hartsiotis

Why Christmas has always had its ghosts

Folklore writer, storyteller and accredited lecturer Kirsty Hartsiotis traces the winter ghost story through the Middle Ages, Shakespeare and Marlowe, and the 17th and 18th centuries. Nineteenth-century collections bring the story closer to the familiar Christmas fireside tale, with British stories set alongside European midwinter traditions.

The talk lasts around 45 minutes to an hour in the Meeting Room beside the Art Gallery. There is step-free access to the room and a hearing loop, while the foyer café sells drinks before and after; ticket holders receive a half-price hot drink.

Free parking is a short walk away in Stratford Park, and accessible bays outside the museum are reached via the barrier intercom. Leave a little time for the walk through the park before settling into the darker side of the festive season.
