About this event
The acre of productive ground behind Highgrove House supplies both the kitchens of the royal residence and the Orchard Room Restaurant next door. This experience takes you in through the working side: a guided walk through the gardens first, then a session with a senior member of the gardening team in the Kitchen Garden itself.
The focus is practical. The session covers organic growing methods, companion planting, crop rotation as natural pest control, and a look at the Heritage Seed Library, a collection of heritage food crop varieties maintained at Highgrove to preserve what has largely disappeared from commercial agriculture. The kitchen garden operates without synthetic inputs, working to Highgrove's long-established ethos of healthy soil and plants grown in harmony with nature.
After the garden session, afternoon tea is served in the Garden Room: the standard Highgrove tiered stand with finger sandwiches, scones, and sweet pastries, with a choice of Highgrove tea or freshly brewed coffee. Time is also allowed at the end to visit the Coronation Pavilion estate shop before departing.
