Melancholy, Magic and Mischief at Lansdown Hall

Davy and Kristin McGuire have spent the past decade making projections and sculptures for the National Gallery of Singapore, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Barbican and Christian Dior's flagship stores from Shanghai to Paris. This week their touring practice lands somewhere much smaller: five days at Lansdown Hall, part of the fringe programme around Stroud's Hidden Notes festival.

Fairies & Filth sets projection against sculpture to build a series of miniature worlds: wilted Dutch still-life bouquets bloom back to life on loop, fairies flicker under glass domes, pocket-sized figures live inside discarded rubbish, and half-seen characters move behind noir-lit windows. It's the same language the couple used on their Helpmann Award-winning stage work and their window installations for Harrods and Saks Fifth Avenue, scaled down into a domestic-sized gallery. Davy trained in theatre, Kristin danced with Cirque du Soleil, and that mix of stagecraft and physical discipline shows in how tightly the illusions are built.

Weekday viewing sessions are free entry; the Wednesday opening evening and the weekend sessions are reserved for Hidden Notes ticket holders.
