About this event

What happens to a village when work stops

John Salter's new play follows the fictional South Yorkshire village of Gracethorpe through the hardship of the 1984-85 miners' strike. The Battle of Orgreave, when striking miners confronted police, sits at the centre of a story about the people caught in that year of conflict.

Parliament Street Car Park, opposite the police station, is free in the evenings and about a five-minute walk from the theatre. Allow time for that walk before doors open at 7pm.

The production brings competing positions into view: government and unions, Thatcher and Scargill, and miners who struck or kept working. It leaves questions open, giving audiences room to weigh the choices made by people on different sides of the dispute.

Ticketed; book ahead for your chosen performance. This listing is for Wednesday's opening night; Thursday, Friday and Saturday are separately bookable evenings.
