About this event
There is something particularly right about watching The Comedy of Errors as August light fades over the Old Station Yard. The Festival Players — a touring, all-male repertory company with a long track record in open-air Shakespeare — perform both a matinee and this evening show on the same day, and the 6:30pm slot has its own character: a gathering dusk, rugs on the grass, and the absurdist chaos of Shakespeare's most farcical play unfolding in front of you.
Two sets of identical twins, separated at birth, collide in Ephesus. Neither pair knows the other exists. What follows is a cascade of mistaken identities — a stolen gold chain, wrongful beatings, a husband declared mad — that only escalates until the whole tangle resolves in the final scene's joyful reunion. The play is short, physical, and never lets up.
Adults £18 advance, £12 under-18. On the door (if still available): £20 and £13. Wine can be pre-ordered. If the weather is poor the company moves inside the Main Hall.
