About this event
The Craft Barn started in 2014 when Karen Holland and a friend, tired of driving out of the Cotswolds every time they wanted a decent workshop, began running their own from a stone barn at Karen's home in Lechlade. Mosaic work is one of the house specialities, sitting alongside a rotating programme of block printing, needle felting and crochet sessions through the year.
This one runs the full five hours, 10am to 3pm. You choose from slate, stone, glass nuggets and ceramic tiles rather than the standard glass squares most beginner mosaic classes stick to, plan out a design, cut your pieces, mix adhesive and fix everything in place before the finished mosaic dries and goes into its frame.
No previous mosaic experience is needed, and the mix of materials gives anyone who has done it before plenty to work with too. Minimum age is 14, and under-16s need a participating adult alongside them. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided; bring lunch and an apron. The barn is reached via external stone steps with handrails, worth knowing if mobility is a concern.
A five-hour session is long enough to get past the fiddly first cuts and leave with a framed piece that's actually finished, not just started.
