Pointless host swaps quiz questions for a fantasy world of his own making

Alexander Armstrong has spent the best part of two decades on television, first as one half of the sketch duo Armstrong and Miller, then as the host of Pointless, and as one of the most frequent stand-in hosts Have I Got News for You has ever had. Off screen he's also a classically trained bass-baritone whose debut album went to number one on the UK Classical Chart. Writing children's fiction is his newest string.

He's bringing Evenfall: The Tempest Stone to Shipston High School, the second instalment in a series that follows a thirteen-year-old who learns he's descended from a secret society charged with protecting the world. Illustrated by Tom Roberts and aimed at nine-to-twelve-year-olds, the books pick up where 2024's The Golden Linnet left off. Expect Armstrong to talk through how the story took shape and what he wanted young readers to feel reading it.

Seeing a familiar TV face talk seriously about world-building rather than deliver one-liners is the real draw here.
