Memphis Jug Sounds Land at a Cotswold Coaching Inn

Clay Bottom Jug Busters call themselves Bristol's neighbourhood jug band, built by harmonica and jug player Joe Strouzer and guitarist Joseph Trudgeon around the sound of the original Memphis Jug Band and Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers. Tim Hearn's mandolin, Sadie Capps's double bass and Paul Archibald's drums round out the five-piece.

The band released their debut album, Too Tight, on vinyl and CD last year, twelve tracks of blues, punk and hokum that fans have praised for their raw, unpolished feel. Live, expect the same energy: hollered choruses, ragtime shuffles and a room built for dancing rather than sitting still.

The Kings Arms is a refurbished coaching inn in the middle of Malmesbury, and a Friday night jug band set is exactly the kind of thing worth crossing county lines for.
