About this event
There's something deeply satisfying about turning a stick of hazel into something you'll use every morning — and Tamsin Quin, a National Trust–commissioned wood carver from Wiltshire, makes it genuinely achievable in two hours.
This is greenwood carving stripped back to essentials: sharp knives, basic technique, and the meditative rhythm of shaping wood with your hands.
You'll learn knife safety and foundational carving, then whittle your hazel blank into a spreader before adding your own flourishes — either carved detail or pyrography–burned design.
It's pitched at 8-year-olds and up, but adults often book their own place to work alongside; Tamsin sees these sessions as quietly therapeutic family time rather than competitive making.
Everyone leaves with a functioning, handmade tool that'll last decades, and a sense of what proper craft feels like. The on-site café does coffee if you need fortifying first.
Friday 29 May, 10am–12pm · Brush Studio, New Brewery Arts, Cirencester · £25 per person
