When the Harp Improvises Around the Poem

There are not many afternoons where a BBC Concert Orchestra principal sits down with a poet and makes it up as they go. That is what Imaginary Landscapes is.

Anne Denholm-Blair, Principal Harp with the BBC Concert Orchestra and former Official Harpist to HRH The Prince of Wales, plays semi-improvised music around Chris Tutton's spoken words. Tutton is the author of eight poetry collections, most recently Short Chapters From Sunset, and was described by Ned Sherrin as the master of the short poem. The programme draws on that body of work: short, precise poems that sit alongside harp rather than fighting it for space.

The event has toured literary and music festivals across the country, pulling reviews like "magical and mesmerising" from Windsor Arts Festival and "this should be at the heart of every festival" from Rye Arts Festival. The Goods Shed is an unusually good fit for it: a converted Victorian railway building, close enough that you hear every string harmonic.
