Home Turf for Kingswood's Amdram Crew

Kingswood Village Hall is where KADS live the rest of the year too, not just for shows but for the murder mystery nights and rehearsals that keep this small local group ticking over between productions. Friday is opening night for a musical theatre showcase, the first of two performances at the hall this weekend.

KADS, short for Kingswood Amdram Group, runs on a community-sized following, just shy of 300 on Facebook. A night at the musicals brings together numbers from stage favourites, performed by the same cast and crew who rehearse in this room week after week. They're already deep into work on their first "risqué panto," Sleeping With Beauty, due later in the year, so Friday doubles as an early look at what's coming from the group.

It's the kind of evening where half the room knows the cast personally, and that changes how a musical number lands.
