About this event

Pull old linen apart, then make it useful again

This hands-on workshop with textile artist Siân Martin begins with unwanted household linen. You will rip it into strips and try different ways of joining the pieces into a new textile that can be decorative, functional or both. Materials are provided, though you can bring a favourite old textile to work with.

The idea grows directly from Martin's own UNmaking practice, which unravels linen scrim and reuses the loose threads to explore movement, layering and conservation. Here, taking the material apart is as important as deciding what it becomes next.

The session is for adults and young people aged 14 and over. Bring a packed lunch because the museum cafe sells drinks and light snacks but no hot food. The museum has step-free and lift access, accessible bays outside and a free main car park around 260 metres away.

Ticketed. Advance booking required.
