Workshop with Shelley Rhodes: Reworked Cloth - Fragment and Repair

📅 Sunday, 18 October 2026 at 10:30📍 The Museum in the Park, Stratford Park, Stratford Road, Stroud, Gloucestershire GL5 4AF

About this event

Take a piece of cloth apart, then find a new way to join it

Bring an old garment, tea towel, previously worked textile or a new piece of cloth and spend the day changing its structure. Shelley Rhodes will guide the group through chopping, rearranging, joining and embellishing with hand stitch, manipulation and other media.

Rhodes's own practice uses worn, salvaged and discarded materials, with the marks of fragmentation and repair left visible. Her textile work draws on Kantha and Japanese Boro, where layers are held and repaired with simple stitch.

The session is for adults, welcomes all abilities and forms part of the Textile Study Group's UNmaking exhibition programme. Bring a basic sewing kit with needles, pins, scissors and threads you like to use, plus fabric scraps or offcuts and a packed lunch.

The museum has step-free access and accessible parking directly outside. The main free Stratford Park car park is about 260 metres away along a gently sloping tarmac path.

Ticketed. Sold out; join the waiting list.
