WorkshopAutumn Colours: Natural Inks and Drawing Trees
Friday 16 October
📍 Cirencester

About this event
St John the Baptist in Cirencester is one of the largest parish churches in England, funded by medieval wool merchants who left their crests on the nave pillars, and it has been drawing artists to it for centuries. This two-day workshop gives you two full days to work your way around it, inside and out, with Laurie Plant.
Plant is a Cirencester-based artist and President of The Arts Society, Corinium, whose architectural work has included a commission for the church floor project in 2008. He teaches confidently across levels, and the format here is practical: short 15-minute observational sketches to build fluency, then longer hour-long drawings to develop proportion and perspective.
You will work in pencil, charcoal, pastel and watercolour, moving between the nave, the chapels, the graveyard, and the Abbey Grounds to find different viewpoints on the same building.
Materials are provided except an A4 or A3 sketchbook. Bring a portable stool or chair and dress for the weather, as much of the time is spent outside. All levels welcome, including complete beginners.
