Helen Chadwick and Dave Camlin Take the Singing Outside

Helen Chadwick started running choirs in Stroud in 1981 and has spent four decades since as one of the most distinctive figures in British vocal music — over 300 songs for unaccompanied voices, song theatre commissions for the Royal Opera House and the South Bank Centre, and an Honorary Fellowship from Dartington College of Arts.

Dave Camlin is Professor of Music Education at the Royal College of Music, a Natural Voice practitioner, and has been running Wild Singing weekends in the Lake District for several years. This is their first version in the Cotswolds.

Each day starts at Nailsworth Town Hall before heading out on foot to sing in context: ancient woodland, beside streams, and along the Cotswold Way with views over the Severn Estuary and, on a clear day, into Wales. The walking is described as gentle. Saturday runs 10:30am–5pm with an optional evening together; Sunday 10am–4pm. Minimum 16, maximum 24 participants.

Open to all who can hold a tune. Bring waterproofs, walking shoes, and a packed lunch — tea, coffee and snacks are provided at the hall.
