Three days of tango musicality in a Grade II listed manor

Hawkwood, the Tudor Gothic villa on the edge of Stroud now known as Hawkwood Centre for Future Thinking, has run residential courses in the arts and creative practice since 1948, when Rudolf Steiner-inspired educators first opened its doors to twelve students.

This September it hosts a weekend built around one idea: dancing that responds to the music rather than just marking the beat.

Caroline Mathias leads the course, working with live musicians in-house across the three days so dancers can hear phrasing, dynamics and rhythm shift in real time and adjust their tango to match.

Expect structured technique sessions through the day, social dancing in the evenings, and the chance to stay on-site for the full residential weekend in the house's 42 acres of grounds.

It is the kind of format that turns dancers who know the steps into dancers who actually listen.
