About this event
Georgina Valentine has worked as a documentary and portrait photographer for 25 years, on commission for charities including UNICEF, ActionAid and Sight Savers International, and shooting for The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times Magazine and Reuters. She spent several years based in East Africa, where she once ran a camera club for teenagers in a Nairobi slum, and now teaches this two-day masterclass from the Scissors Studio at New Brewery Arts, pitched at complete beginners.
Day one is light and composition: getting to know your own phone's camera properly, not a generic model, through studio time and guided sessions out around Cirencester putting the ideas into practice. Day two moves into Pro mode or a third-party app, manual shutter speed to freeze or blur motion, and building the creative control that suits whatever you're drawn to shooting, portraits, landscapes or action. You review and edit on your own phone throughout, so what you leave with is a working habit, not a page of notes.
You leave already treating the phone in your pocket as the camera it always was, not a poor substitute for a real one.
Ticketed.
