About this event
Most scatter cushions don't have piping. The ones that do — with that crisp raised cord running around the seam — are the ones that look like they belong in the room rather than just dropped in it. Learning to sew piping properly is one of those skills that quietly upgrades everything you make afterwards.
This one-day workshop at New Brewery Arts is led by Ruth Martin of Baskerville & Jones, who holds the AMUSF Intermediate Craft Certificate with distinction from the British School of Upholstered Furniture, with additional training from the Traditional Upholstery School in Wiltshire. She teaches soft furnishings alongside her own practice making cushions, lampshades and upholstered pieces.
The session covers making bias-cut piping from scratch, attaching it cleanly to a scatter cushion cover, and fitting a concealed zip so the finished piece can be washed. You'll work on measuring, cutting and pattern matching to get the most from your fabric. No specific experience level is stated — suitable for anyone comfortable at a sewing machine.
