About this event
Lechlade Craft Barn has been running out of Karen Holland's old stone barn on the edge of Downington since 2014, when Karen and Jennie Turner-Maskell started it up to fill a gap for affordable, proper craft teaching in the area. Block printing is one of the courses that's stuck around longest, and this one pairs it with a second skill most people never get taught: building the lampshade that goes with it.
The printing blocks are hand-carved by artisans in rural India, and the morning is spent working two colours into a repeat pattern on a practice piece before printing the length of fabric that becomes the real thing. After lunch, that fabric goes onto a no-sew lampshade frame, in your choice of a 20cm or 30cm drum, sized for either a lamp base or a ceiling fitting. Materials, tea, coffee and biscuits are covered; bring your own lunch and something you don't mind marking, since the fabric ink stains.
Nobody in the room leaves with the same lampshade twice, including you.
