Cutting Glass, Catching Light

Mosaic on acrylic is one of the more forgiving crafts for a first attempt. At the Craft Barn, a full day is set aside for exactly that, using glass and acrylic shapes cut and arranged on a clear acrylic base so the finished piece lets daylight straight through it.

Across the five hours you lay out your own design, cut tiles and glass to fit it, grout the piece and finish it ready to hang. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided; bring your own lunch and an apron, since the grouting stage gets messy. The finished piece works as an indoor suncatcher or can go straight into a garden border to catch the light outside.

Five hours is enough to walk out with something finished, not just started.
