About this event
Wheel throwing is harder than it looks — and that gap between watching a potter work and actually getting clay to do what you want is exactly why a full-day introduction is worth taking seriously.
New Brewery Arts has been running ceramics in Cirencester since the old Brewery Court buildings were converted in the 1990s, and the pottery studio here is a proper working space, not a hotel spa treatment dressed up as craft. Tutor Rhi Jarman runs the wheel-throwing programme and knows where beginners get stuck.
The day runs 10am to 4pm, which is long enough to actually get somewhere. You will learn to centre clay on the wheel, open it out, and pull up walls to form a cylinder or bowl shape. There is time for repetition, which is the only way the technique beds in. Glazing and firing happen separately after the workshop.
