About this event

Mending Broken Things with Gold

Kintsugi is the Japanese practice of repairing cracked pottery with lacquer mixed with gold, treating damage as part of an object's history rather than something to hide. Traditional practice takes weeks. This half-day session at New Brewery Arts offers a modern interpretation that condenses the process into a single morning, led by ceramic artist Jane MacFarlane.

You work with a pre-broken bowl, choosing from a range of metallic powders to personalise the repair. The session is deliberately slow, with conversation woven in throughout — the history and philosophy of the practice, individual approaches, questions as they arise. There is a twenty-minute break built in for drying time, which can be spent at the on-site Blend café. You leave with a finished bowl and the foundations to continue the technique at home.

All materials are provided. Apron recommended, no prior experience needed. The July session is sold out, but Jane runs the same workshop again on 7 September.
