Handbuilt Ceramics: Make a Ceramic House Tealight Holder

Build something you can actually light a candle in

New Brewery Arts has been running workshops from its courtyard in the middle of Cirencester for decades, and the ceramics sessions are among the most consistently booked. This one keeps things grounded in handbuilding — no wheel, no throwing. You work with slab construction: rolling out clay, cutting it into shapes and assembling walls, roof, windows and a door until the whole thing looks like a miniature house you could set a tealight inside.

Tutor Chiara Coppola keeps it accessible for complete beginners without skipping anything useful for people who have handled clay before. Materials are all provided, and the finished piece goes off for kiln-firing with a transparent glaze — collection takes up to six weeks. Bring an apron and clothes you can get dusty.
