Two Themes, One Gel Plate, No Right Answer

Gel plate printing rewards restlessness. You lay paint onto a smooth plate, press paper against it, and peel the sheet away to reveal a print no brush could quite replicate, then do it again with a different mask or stencil. At Lechlade Craft Barn's day-long workshop, tutor Janet lets everyone pick their own lane: loose land-and-sea imagery or full freestyle abstract.

The day works through A5 monoprinting across at least two paper types, layering shapes, masks and stencils, some figurative and some abstract, until the patterns build into something genuinely complex. Those printed sheets become the material for an afternoon collage, cut or torn to shape, which gets signed, sealed and framed before the day is out. Bring your own gloves and apron for the acrylic paint and matt medium; minimum age is 16.

Nobody needs prior printmaking experience, just a willingness to let the plate do something you didn't plan.
