About this event

Wild Knowledge, Ancient Stories

Somerset Soulfood has been running plant-centred walks across the West Country for years, combining practical herbalism with a genuine understanding of wild food.

This July they're leaving from the Stroud Brewery Taproom for a four-hour loop through the Thrupp hedgerows, joined by Oliver Lavery, known as Story Crow: a West Country mythologist and storyteller who draws on the oral traditions of Celtic, Germanic and Norse plant lore.

The walk runs from 11am to 3pm. Somerset Soulfood leads on identification and use, covering both the food and the medicine growing in the verges and field margins. Lavery weaves in the myths and folklore the same plants have carried for centuries, which is a different kind of knowledge but sits well alongside the practical. Four hours is enough time to go slowly and actually absorb it.
