Exhibition - Salmonsbury - an exhibition of art and archaeology

Salmonsbury Camp comes indoors

Six artists spent a year responding to a hillfort most visitors drive past without noticing. Salmonsbury Camp sits just outside Bourton-on-the-Water, a scheduled site with evidence running from the Neolithic through to the medieval period, when it served as the meeting place for the Salmonsbury hundred court. Today the ground it covers is farmed and managed as a nature reserve by Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.

This exhibition puts new work by Amanda Steer, Andy Freedman, Caroline Morris, Valerie Coffin Price, Ruth Broadbent and Zoe Ashbrook alongside archaeological material from the site, the result of a year-long collaboration between the artists, the Wildlife Trust and the museum. A companion talk on Salmonsbury and a workshop on prehistoric textiles led by experimental archaeologist Sally Pointer both run during the exhibition's stay.

Worth the detour if you've only ever known Salmonsbury as a name on a footpath sign.
