Ceramics for Beginners: Make a Mug and Spoon by Hand

Clay, Coffee and a Five-Hour Saturday Well Spent

New Brewery Arts runs one of the best-stocked craft programmes in the Cotswolds, and this day workshop is a good entry point for anyone who has thought about ceramics but never quite got round to it. You will be working with Chiara Coppola, a studio potter who specialises in porcelain and has a particular feel for form and balance.

The session covers handbuilding from slabs — rolling and shaping clay into a mug body, forming and attaching a handle, then making a matching spoon. That is two usable, related pieces in a single day. You will also have time to add surface decoration: texture, carving, or subtle detailing. Everything is included in the price, and your finished pieces will be glazed with a transparent glaze and kiln-fired after the session — allow up to six weeks for collection. Wear clothes you do not mind getting clay on.

The workshop is open to beginners and anyone with some previous clay experience. Blend Cafe is on site until 4pm.
