Black Is the Color of My Voice

A solo performance where Nina Simone's songs carry the story

Written and performed by Apphia Campbell, this solo play is inspired by Nina Simone's life and features many of her iconic songs performed live. It follows a successful singer and civil rights activist seeking redemption after her father's death, then looks back to the gifted young pianist who was expected to serve the church.

The story connects music with the Civil Rights Movement as its central character builds a career as a jazz vocalist. The Theatre lists a running time of 75 minutes and recommends the show for ages 12+.

Both the 4pm and 7.30pm performances are listed for Saturday 17 October. Free long-stay parking is available at New Street and Albion Street a short walk away, while step-free access to the stalls, bar, ticket collection and accessible toilet is through the Bar door on Spring Street.

Ticketed. Check The Theatre Chipping Norton for current availability.
