About this event

What the Glosters' Korean War story still asks today

Robert Dixon's talk marks 75 years since the Battle of the Imjin River, where the 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment held its position against a much larger Chinese force in April 1951. He draws on his new book to tell the Glosters' Korean War story and explain why the battle became so closely associated with the regiment.

The stand helped buy time for United Nations forces to regroup, and the battalion later received the United States Presidential Unit Citation. Dixon is a former Commanding Officer of the Gloucestershire Regiment and has researched the regiment's Korean War history through his work with the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum.

The evening also asks what the Glosters' experience says about military service and expeditionary forces today. It takes place in Cirencester's parish church, a living place of worship with more than 1,000 years of history.

Ticketed. Friends of Cirencester Parish Church members have free entry.
