About this event
The Adderbury Ensemble grew out of house concerts in a North Oxfordshire village forty years ago and now draws players who hold principal chairs in Britain's leading orchestras. They still play the small rooms, this one included.
Tonight's programme runs string quartets by Ravel (F major, completed 1903) and Dvořák (the "American," written during his 1893 stay in Spillville, Iowa), alongside further chamber pieces. The Combe Community Hub itself was a Methodist chapel until villagers bought and converted it, adding acoustic dampening specifically so it could host live music.
Four instruments in a room built for hymn singing, now tuned for something else entirely.
