About this event
The 1971 original — not the remake — comes to the Corn Exchange's summer holiday cinema run, and at £4 a ticket it is one of the cheaper ways to spend a Tuesday morning in August.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory screens in a vibrant new print with the soundtrack restored in stereo: Pure Imagination, The Candy Man, the Oompa-Loompa songs all as they should be heard. Gene Wilder plays Wonka with a particular strangeness that has aged well, and the film carries a PG certificate. A good fit for children from around five upwards, though younger ones have been known to find the tunnel scene genuinely unsettling.
This is the third of five films in The Corn Exchange's Summer Holiday Cinema season. If you plan to catch more than four, a season ticket covering all five is available in person at the box office for the price of four admissions.
