About this event
The Last Baguette, Malmesbury's own community interest theatre company, run this summer workshop for young people aged 10 to 18 who want to do something more substantial than a one-day drama class. Devised theatre means exactly what it sounds like: no script handed to you on day one, no pre-written story to fit yourself into. Participants create their own characters, find their own story, and shape it into a piece of theatre together over the course of the week.
The Last Baguette were formed by graduates of the Philippe Gaulier and Jacques Lecoq schools in Paris, and their approach to theatre with young people tends toward the experimental rather than the safe. The week builds toward a short performance on Friday, so there is a real goal driving the process, but the emphasis is on the making. Participants pick up skills in acting, writing and directing as the week unfolds, rather than drilling a finished text.
The venue is St Mary's Hall, the Scout group's community hall tucked in behind Cross Hayes, Malmesbury's town square. The workshop runs 10am to 4pm each day. Tickets via TicketSource.
