About this event
Joe Bonaparte is a gifted violinist in 1930s New York who is tempted by fame and fortune in professional boxing. Josh O'Connor leads Clifford Odets' Golden Boy, directed by Sam Yates and filmed live at the Almeida Theatre, with a live string quartet accompanying the drama.
The screening runs for three hours and carries a 15 certificate. The production contains strong, racist and homophobic language, violence, misogyny, guns, gambling, heavy drinking and smoking, with references to suicide, manslaughter, domestic violence and death.
Step-free entry through the Spring Street bar door leads to the stalls, bar and accessible toilet; wheelchair spaces and a hearing loop are available through the Box Office. The street approach has uneven paving and camber, and there is no lift to the balcony or gallery, so arrange suitable seating when booking.
There are two evening screenings, on Sunday 22 and Monday 30 November. Joe's choice between music and boxing puts the cost of ambition at the centre of this filmed revival.
Ticketed. Check specific film access arrangements with the Box Office.
