Why the fair comes back a week later

Cirencester's Market Place becomes a town-centre funfair from midday to 10pm, with rides and stalls filling the square and nearby streets. This is the first of two Mop Fair Mondays in 2026, with the fair returning on 12 October.

Before the rides, mop fairs were hiring days where workers carried an object showing their trade. Cirencester links its fair to the 1351 Statute of Labourers, and the Town Council's neighbourhood plan says the same family has brought it to town for about a century.

Set-up starts at 4pm on Sunday and town-centre road closures will be in place, so check the council's latest travel information before setting off. The detailed 2026 ride line-up has not yet been published.
