About this event

Lead, Glass and Light: Leaded Stained Glass at Lechlade Craft Barn

Leaded stained glass is one of the oldest decorative crafts in Britain — the method of cutting coloured glass and binding it with lead came is essentially unchanged from the medieval church windows you see across the Cotswolds. At Lechlade Craft Barn, tutor Sharon of Maybug Studio brings the same process down to something you can complete in a single day.

You will work through every stage: choosing a design, cutting your glass to shape, preparing and cutting the lead came, soldering it together, then cementing the glass in place to finish. What you take home is a suncatcher panel of around 10 by 8 inches — small by church standards, but the same craft. Groups are capped at six, which gives everyone proper time with Sharon and space to work accurately. Previous glass-cutting experience is helpful but not essential.

The £85 booking fee covers tuition, tools, and tea and biscuits throughout the day. Materials are an extra £30–£45 paid to the tutor on the day by card or cash. Bring your lunch, tie back long hair, and wear closed-toe shoes. The workshop is not suitable for anyone under 18 or who is pregnant.
