The Dinner Party Farce Critics Can't Stop Talking About

Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde play a San Francisco couple whose marriage is fraying when Wilde's character invites the upstairs neighbours down for an unplanned dinner. Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton turn up as the neighbours, and an evening of mismatched wine and awkward small talk tips into something neither couple saw coming.

Wilde directs from a script by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, reworking Cesc Gay's Spanish film The People Upstairs for an American setting. It premiered at Sundance in January before A24 gave it a summer release, and critics have been close to unanimous, Rotten Tomatoes has it at 96 percent, with reviewers calling it a sophisticated farce that gives all four leads some of their best material yet.

At 107 minutes it fits neatly into a Sunday evening without swallowing the whole night.
