About this event
Cirencester has been trading in this square for close to a thousand years. The Friday charter market was recorded in the Domesday Book, the Romans before that built two market places on the same site, and the medieval wool trade funded the Church of St John the Baptist, which towers over the Market Place and is one of the grandest in the Cotswolds. The Saturday general market fits naturally into all of that.
The third Saturday of each month brings together the kind of mix that makes it worth the trip: fresh produce, plants, homewares, crafts, wicker, outdoor furniture, and hot food to eat on the spot. Traders from the weekly charter market join those who only appear on Saturdays, so it runs broader than the usual Monday or Friday visit.
Free entry.
