Rack Isle, Bibury
About
Rack Isle, Bibury
Rack Isle is a boggy water meadow beside the River Coln in Bibury, named for the racks once used to dry wool washed at Arlington Row. It is a wildlife habitat managed by the National Trust, with plants such as yellow flag iris and marsh marigold. The Trust identifies water voles, kingfishers and dragonflies among the wildlife supported here; sightings are not guaranteed.
View the meadow from the public footpaths around it and beside Arlington Row. Access includes level tarmac, a narrow bridge over the mill stream and narrow path sections, so this is not an unrestricted walk through the meadow or a uniformly wide accessible circuit. Keep dogs on leads and stay on the public paths.
