Prema Arts Centre

Prema occupies a former Ebenezer chapel on South Street in Uley, a small village about two miles from Dursley, and it has been running as an arts centre for around forty years.

The conversion kept the chapel's high ceilings intact, which gives the upper-floor performance and exhibition space a quality that most rural venues simply cannot match.

It is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation — one of the few at this scale operating outside a market town — and its programme runs across theatre, live music, dance, visual art exhibitions covering painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture, plus workshops and classes for adults and children throughout the week.

The centre opens Wednesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, with the Vestry Cafe on the ground floor serving brunch, snacks and coffee until 4pm — there is also a small garden at the front if the weather holds.

Tickets for performances are sold without booking fees through the website. The programme suits people who want something a step above the standard village hall touring show: the acts and exhibitions are properly curated, the space has atmosphere, and because it is in Uley rather than anywhere obvious, it stays under the radar for most visitors to the area.
