Chimney Meadows National Nature Reserve
About
Chimney Meadows National Nature Reserve
Chimney Meadows is BBOWT's largest nature reserve in Oxfordshire, with Thames floodplain meadows, grazing marsh and wetland habitats near Bampton. The Thames Path, public footpaths, bridleway and permissive paths provide routes through parts of the reserve. Use the designated BBOWT car park at the entrance and keep dogs on leads.
Ground is flat but uneven, boggy and liable to flooding; the Great Brook and Duxford fords may be impassable at high water. Great Brook Road can also flood, with BBOWT identifying the Bull Street and Aston approach as an alternative in very high water. The reserve core and Duxford Old River have limited public access, with views from the Thames Path and occasional guided walks. There are three bird hides, two with wheelchair access; this does not make every path accessible.
