Bampton Downton Abbey Mile

About

Bampton Downton Abbey Mile

The Downton Mile is a self-guided walk of around one mile through the Bampton locations used for Downton village scenes. The archive's map marks the church shown as St Michael and All Angels, Mrs Crawley's House and the Old Grammar School, which appeared as Downton Cottage Hospital, along with the village's screen pub and Post Office locations. It gives viewers a way to match familiar settings with the real village streets; the markers do not imply entry to the buildings.

Use the current map available online from Bampton Community Archive. Its shop and exhibition space are in the Old Grammar School near St Mary's Church; archive opening is listed as daily, 10am to 4pm, with occasional volunteer-staffing closures. For a printed map, check availability with the archive rather than relying on the library's separate opening hours. Market Square offers short-stay parking for up to four hours, subject to restrictions and space; Church Close is another option. Avoid parking on narrow Church View.
