Arlington Row

About

Arlington Row

Arlington Row is a terrace of Grade I listed limestone cottages beside the mill stream in Bibury. Built in the late 14th century, probably as a wool store, it was converted into weavers' homes in the late 17th century. Its uneven roofline and irregular gables distinguish the row; across the stream, Rack Isle is a wet meadow once used for drying wool.

The cottages and gardens are private homes, apart from numbers 1 and 9 which are holiday lets for booked guests. Visitors can use the public path in front of the row, which is level tarmac. The route around Rack Isle includes a narrow bridge and narrow paths. Parking along the main road is limited, and vehicle access to the steep lane beside the cottages is restricted to residents.
