The Market Tavern

The Market Tavern is a pub with rooms on Bridge Street in central Bampton. It opened under its current name in spring 2025 in a renovated Grade II listed building. The kitchen serves seasonal British food and Sunday roasts, with real ales and cocktails at the bar. The AA lists it as a four Gold Star Inn with a one-Rosette restaurant.

Nine rooms sit above the pub, including a very small single and a two-bedroom suite for up to six. Rooms have restored vintage furniture, en-suite bathrooms, Hypnos mattresses and Noble Isle toiletries; breakfast can be added to a booking. Bampton's Downton Abbey filming locations are nearby. All rooms are reached by stairs, with no lift or air conditioning, and guests may hear pub noise. Dogs are welcome in the front restaurant and bar but cannot stay upstairs overnight. Parking is on nearby village streets, so check the signs.
