Writing Craft Workshop with Lucy Parrott

Twenty-six years of clearing the blank page

Lucy Parrott runs Lucy Parrott Writing Workshops from Stratford-upon-Avon, ten miles up the road, drawing on 26 years' experience that includes weekly adult sessions, a monthly open mic she hosts at Rother Street Arts House, and workshops for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and Stratford Town Trust. One of those, held in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre's own Welcome Space, used the water imagery running through Shakespeare's plays as writing prompts.

For Shipston Bookfest she brings her own framework, the Eight Elements of Freedom, a sequence of prompts and exercises built to move writers past self-criticism and into curiosity. It's aimed equally at published authors, regular journal-keepers and people who haven't written creatively in years, with time set aside to write, read back and experiment rather than sit through a lecture on technique. Light refreshments are included.

Parrott has spent a career getting strangers to fill a page next to each other, and that's the whole point of the afternoon.
